18-May-2013: VOGELSANG HSC & Around
Got a good 6.5 hours high altitude exposure at Vogelsang area in Yosemite NP. We started from Tuolumne Meadows permit station, and within few miles we were hit single track. The initial few miles were on the iconic JMT before the trail split. We took the Rafferty Creek Trail to our destination Vogelsang HSC.
There were still lot of snow left in the higher altitude. We eventually lost our way, and ended up taking a different trail. I suppose that is Emerie Lake trail. Nonethless, we were treated to good amount of post holing, and amazing alpine condition. We made a short excursion of our detour and climbed up a NO NAME peak. On the whole, time well spent at 10,000+ Ft.
Weatherwise - it was perfect, with tad warmer around noon. Summer is going to be harsh. I have identified few bigger loops here which i intend doing in few weeks from now.
26-May-2013: Mission Peak Repeat /Memorial Day Weekend
I had to cancel my plans to hike Mt Dana at Yosemite NP on the Memorial Day weekend due to commitment at work. Pretty much stayed home on 5/24 (sat) on work. Had a real good work out on 25th and 26th. with lot of focus on climbs, strength and core workouts. This is my official start of my training for the speed goat & few longer races in summer. Managed 2 repeats of Mission Peak on Monday on tired legs at a decent clip. That would be ~12.5 miles with ~5000Ft in 3 hours. Target is to build the base to do at least 5 repeats by end of June.
