The City of Children Orphanage Benefit Run: 50K

With just two weeks left for the RR 100 M, i had to get in one long run before i start resting. These days, i have made it a point not to run for a week before the race. This has been working well, so far.

We had planned to run BCGB until murali sent a note about this race. This suited us well & we headed out to warda on saturday morning. By the time we got to start line, the race had started. This suited us real well, for we were keen on running easy pace.

The race is held at Bluff Creek Ranch situate in Warda Tx. The race as such was a small event in terms of number of runners, 21 registered 20 started. Proceeds from race were donated to Ciudad de los Ninos, an orphanage in mexico. Its a 4 loop of 7.75 miles per lap.

I started our nice and easy throwing in walks in between. I was awestruck Pete Mehok, eventual winner was running (finished in ~3.30 hrs). He finished the race when i was in 3 rd loop. I saw him flying past in my second loop. Darn. Halfway in 3rd loop, i cramped real bad. It got worse starting the 4 loop. I walked all the way till finish line. I would not have done if it had been just a training run. Murali ran a smart race to get a PR, congrats!

My splits were;
Loop 1: 1:20 Hrs
Loop 2: 1:30 Hrs
Loop 3: 1:46 Hrs
Loop 4: 2:09 Hrs
Total: ~6:40 Hrs

Damon made us some good stuff to eat, washed it down with shiner bock. After spending about 1 hr talking to remaning few runners at the dining table, we headed to Austin. Btw, myself & murali registered after we finished our race & eating our food\Beer. How about that. RD, Damon Nolan is a cool chap.

All set for RR100M on 7 Feb, my third attempt at 100M. Hoping the proverbial "Third Time Lucky" comes true.
